WCS follows all state laws and HIPAA guidelines. Confidentiality is crucial to the therapeutic
process. This being said, a few exceptions exist concerning the limits of confidentiality in
sessions. These exceptions include…

• A client reporting the intent to harm him/herself.

•  A client reporting the intent to harm another person or persons.

• Suspected child or elderly abuse.

These exceptions include a requirement to report to the appropriate department or agency due to
the seriousness of the issue or the possible outcome of the action.

Taking into consideration the exceptions for confidentiality, all other communication is protected
between the client and the therapist and can only be discussed with someone else through written
permission from the client or the client’s parent.
